Bangladeshi Doctors in the UK began as a collaboration between Bangladeshi Doctors in Nottingham and a UK-wide network founded by Dr O Alam, an Emergency Medicine Consultant. What started as a pan-alumni forum has grown into a prestigious pan-specialty medical society, delivering speciality-specific training, cross-border educational initiatives, healthcare innovation and community outreach — led by esteemed consultants and residents who guide our members on training and career progression, in partnership with like-minded organisations across the UK and Bangladesh.
We're named for our Bangladeshi heritage, not limited by it — some of our most engaged members share our ethos rather than our origin, a fact we regard as a mark of the society's strength. Our training initiatives, mentoring programmes and national conference are attended by doctors across the UK healthcare system — and beyond.

Co-Founder & CEO, Hexarad
Too many scans, not enough radiologists. Dr Farzana Rahman — one of our very own, and a former consultant radiologist at University College Hospital — co-founded Hexarad to close that gap. The platform has since helped diagnose more than 2.5 million patients. At our 2025 conference she addressed an audience hungry for inspiration in health-tech, entrepreneurship and innovation — and left them more inspired still.

The society continuously works to develop leadership skills across specialties and seniorities. Professor Patel's invited talk on her leadership journey struck such a chord that members called for more — in 2026, three doctors who reached national leadership roles while still in training (two IMGs, one UK graduate) share their own journeys, roadmaps and playbooks.

A graduate of Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka, Mr Farid is Chairman of Planetary Health Academia — a trans-Atlantic educational institute of Bangladeshi origin that we encourage our members to join. A Consultant Cardiac and Aortic Surgeon at Royal Papworth Hospital and Training Programme Director for Cardiothoracic Surgery in the East of England, he delivers an annual update on the Academia's work at our conference.
Former British High Commissioner
Doctors have plenty of resources on communication — but some of the sharpest lessons come from outside medicine entirely. In 2024 we invited Mr Anwar Choudhury, Bangladeshi-born and the first British High Commissioner from an ethnic-minority background, to speak on communication — drawing on a diplomatic career recognised with the Institute of Government's award for Diplomatic Excellence and Peru's highest honour for a foreign diplomat, the Order of the Sun.

That is what Dr Aklak Choudhury teaches — and after his workshops and masterclasses at three of our national conferences, our members have consistently described him as the best QI trainer they have come across.
